CONNIE STRAYER, MSW, LCSW
Connie has worked with families throughout most of her professional career and believes that parents and other caregivers know and love their children more than anyone else. She draws on this love and knowledge to help strengthen the relationship bonds and help problem solve these challenges. Family supports are vital and she encourages families to include those individuals in their lives who will support the family and child in meeting their goals. This team might include the extended family, close friends, school or child care staff and/or their medical providers. She believes that children come into the world with their own personality. Sometimes families and children face greater challenges from the start such as attachment and/or engagement difficulties and temperament or emotional regulation problems. While Connie has worked with individuals of all ages, she has extensive experience with young children and their families. She has worked with children with special needs, consulted with Head Start and Child Care programs and takes a family based approach. Issues such as childhood trauma, behavioral difficulties, emotional regulation, anxiety and/or depression might be addressed with the use of parent/child play therapy, EMDR, behavior plans and care for the caregivers - all within the context of strengthening relationships.
Connie received her undergraduate degree in child development and elementary education from Iowa State University and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Nebraska in Omaha.
She grew up on a farm in Iowa and lived in the Midwest. Though she practiced in Wyoming for many years, she now lives in Loveland, Colorado. She especially enjoys spending time with her family, hanging out at her cabin, hiking, gardening, reading and painting.
