Faren is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with a Master’s of Art in Art Therapy degree. After graduation, she moved to the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana and worked in elementary schools as a mental health clinician/art therapist. Her love of the Rockies has also brought her to Fort Collins. Faren’s experience with children and youth includes ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum, and mood disorders. She enjoys utilizing art therapy to specialize in assistance for those experiencing grief & loss, as well as connecting with teenage females to assist with anxiety, depression, personal empowerment and self-worth.

She utilizes a highly “arts-based” practice, following the tenant that the process of creating is intrinsically therapeutic. She has lead “Art-as-Therapy” workshops, focusing on a return to our inner child, to get messy, relax, and let the art take us where it may. In her therapeutic work, she utilizes a person-centered and holistic approach. Each client and circumstance may lead to new or different approaches. She engages clients as a partner in the collaboration to a healthier lifestyle, discovering new ideas and explorations. This may include the use of narrative art therapy, solution-focused art therapy, humor, movement, yoga, education, mindfulness, breath work, or incorporating music and aromas in the healing space - as well as an engagement with a myriad of art materials. Faren often creates art alongside her clients, as the process tends to lessen the anxiety of beginning a new therapeutic relationship.

In her personal time, Faren enjoys the outdoors and is an avid painter and traveler, noting that- “Travel and art have the ability to push me outside of my comfort zone and into a wider perspective of life.” The two passions are generally connected and have taken her on adventures in art therapy around the globe.
