Peggy is one of our dedicated child and family counselors with a rich background in social work and mental health advocacy spanning over 15 years, 5 of which were spent in Wyoming where she worked as a Social Worker and Mental Health Advocate for schools. Her passion is supporting families strengthen their relationships and in guiding young adults to find their voices while navigating life’s challenges. Peggy’s expertise lies in creating a safe space for both children and parents to explore their emotions and experiences, fostering growth and resilience along the way.
Peggy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming, with a focus on older adults and cultural studies, particularly with a Mexican American perspective. Her Master of Arts degree from OLLU specializes in family and welfare, with an emphasis on cultural studies, providing her with a strong foundation for her therapeutic approach. One of Peggy’s unique strengths is her cultural construct approach to therapy, recognizing the importance of cultural identity in shaping one’s sense of self. She integrates culturally relevant music and art into her practice, allowing clients to express themselves authentically and find healing through creative outlets.
Throughout her career, Peggy has facilitated counseling groups across diverse settings and age groups, from preschools to nursing homes to mindfulness and art therapy in jails. Peggy’s return to working with children was inspired by the profound impact she had on her clients, who expressed the need for support during their formative years. Her dedication to empowering individuals and families to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and self-awareness makes her a valued asset to the communities she serves.
Peggy is proficient in various therapy modalities, including motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solution-based therapy. Currently, Peggy is pursuing certification in art therapy, recognizing the powerful role that creative expression plays in the therapeutic process.
In her leisure time, Peggy enjoys indulging in her creative pursuits of painting, sculpting, writing, and singing. She actively participates in local community art projects, furthering her connection to her community and nurturing her passion for artistic expression.
